Antiparos is divided from Paros by a narrow and shallow channel. It's smaller, quieter and much less touristically developed than Paros, but it is notable for its golden, sandy beaches and for its authentic natural beauty.
The capital and port, Antiparos or Kastro, stands around the original nucleus of the medieval castle. It lies on the east coast near the narrowest part of the channel.
Antiparos has a number of beaches with golden sand and blue-green water. The main sight is the Cave of Antiparos with awesome stalagmites and stalactites. There is a bus on the route from the village to the caves and back, but why don't you try the donkey-ride?
Every year, more and more visitors come to Antiparos, and as a result the hotels and limited number of rooms to rent have difficulty in meeting demand at peak periods. However, there are quite a lot of tavernas as well as bars for you to enjoy a drink.
All around Antiparos are scores of tiny islands, like guards posted out at sea, inhabited only by wild rabbits and pigeons. |
