The peninsula of Chalkidiki, southeast of Thessaloniki, is formed of three long 'fingers' that extend into the Aegean Sea. It has no less than 500 km of coastline with magnificent beaches and crystal-clear waters.

The first two fingers, Kassandra and Sithonia, offer luxurious hotels and sophisticated nightlife, while the third is the Monastic Republic of Agion Oros (Sacred Mountain).

Kassandra is the summer resort of wealthy Thessalonicians, while Sithonia is considered more beautiful, with pine forests and sandy beaches. Some of the beaches (on both peninsulas) are: Siviri, Salonikios, Armenistis, Karydi, Fourka, Metamorfosi, Toroni, and the beach of Ouranoupolis (on the border of the Monastic Community of the Sacred Mountain, Mount Athos).
